Moths and carpet beetles are a major concern in wool rugs. The damage occurs when the moth is in the larval stage. The larvae feed on protein (wool, silk, animal hair), lay eggs in the rug and the cycle continues. This causes holes and threadbaren areas ruining your rug.
To prevent moth and insect damage, we can apply a treatement after cleaning that changes the flavor of the fiber, making it bitter and less desirable to the moth.
This treatment is recommended prior to wrapping and storing rugs. While there are no guarantees that moths will never return, cleaning and treatment is the best method to prevent this problem.
If your rug is infested with moth’s, your rug can be placed in our chest freezer which will stop their activity and kill them without the need for applying pesticides to your rug. Then you rug can be thoughly cleaned.
